At one point in time we were going to see a television show emerge out of the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy as we follow the exploits of Axel’s son, but not anymore. While nobody asked for it, but here we are stating the news that Eddie Murphy and company will be moving forward with Beverly Hills Cop 4, a movie sequel to the original trilogy. The news very much comes out of left field, mainly because a lot of people forgot about all this news. Could this have the potential of being a decent movie? We’ll see.
Then again this isn’t the first time that they’ve been trying to get the fourth Beverly Hills Cop sequel off the ground. It’s been bobbing in and out of development for over five years with no success. It wasn’t until recently that they tried to lift the Beverly HIlls Cop television show off but nobody wanted it. Why would they? It’s been far too long since we last saw Axel (Murphy) and company try to stop crime on the big screen so there isn’t really much of a fan base for the show now.
Now there is a lot of us who still very much love the first Beverly Hills Cop movie, but none of us are really that intrigued by another sequel. Eddie Murphy hasn’t received the best of luck either in his film career as of late, making one lackluster comedy after the other. It’s understandable why he would want to go back to one of his most popular characters to try and revive his career, but the question is whether or not it’s worth it. There’s always the slight chance that it could become another weak movie in his collection. Then again, we could all be proven wrong and Beverly Hills Cop 4 can be a hit. For the time being we’ll just try to have an open mind about it and see where it goes.
