Want more information on The Avengers: Age of Ultron? Joss Whedon dishes even more info here!
And we thought a Batman-meets-Superman film would be the biggest news of the day: Joss Whedon arrived at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con panel for Marvel Studios with a major announcement: The Avengers 2 will now be known as The Avengers: Age of UItron! (which, you know, pretty much confirms the villain of the film will be Ultron—more on that below)
Whedon’s announcement in Hall H today—via a very quick teaser video for the film—revealed the robotic head of Ultron, confirming that Ultron will indeed be the Big Bad for the film (which also means Thanos may be saved for Guardians of the Galaxy or The Avengers 3).
The film will apparently be based at least somewhat on the very recent comic book series Age of Ultron, in which Ultron attempts a “conquest of the earth,” according to /Film. The comic book storyline also involves Henry Pym (a.k.a., Ant-Man), so Ultron may be the pivot-point by which his character is introduced and later given his own film in Marvel’s Phase Three. None of that is confirmed, and everything is currently in the air. The only two things confirmed are that Ultron will indeed be in the film, and it will be called The Avengers: Age of UItron.
