2013-movie-preview-kick-ass-2

Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to the popular film—you guessed it—Kick Ass, garnered some unwanted press this summer when star Jim Carrey (who appears in the film as the vigilante Colonel Stars and Stripes) stated that he will not support the film, nor do press for it, due to the high level of violence in the film.  Carrey stated that in a post-Sandy Hook world, he could not in good conscience lend the film his support.  So it seems somewhat ironic—or perhaps this is Universal’s way of rising a sizeable middle finger in Carrey’s direction—that the Comic-Con mega-trailer for the film leans so heavily of teen gun violence.

The definitely NSFW trailer (lots of gun-violence, some blood, and loads of less-than office-safe language) spans four and a half minutes as it (a la The Dark Knight) finds Kick-Ass inspiring a new wave of vigilantes, while at the same time escalating crime into super-villainy.    Check it out:

The trailer is entertaining enough, though a lot of the jokes seem one-note (haha, shooting people is funny, hee ho ho, all the super-villains have silly names) and the CGI looks a little rubber-y and fake (we’re looking at you, van sequence).  But hey, would could be wrong.

Kick-Ass 2 was written and directed by Jeff Wadlow and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz.  The film is set for a release date.
