It’s only Friday, and there have already been tons of surprising news coming out of Comic-Con. The latest from Marvel is that Cobie Smulders will be reprising her Avengers role of Maria Hill in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Also, Vin Diesel, who has been hinting that he’s going to appear in one of Marvel’s upcoming projects, addressed the rumors (that he started). More details on these news bits below.
EW reports that Smulders will appear in the first episode of ABC’s TV spinoff of 2012′s blockbuster movie. Joss Whedon told the site that wanted the actress to be in the pilot “as much as anyone else” because “she is SHIELD.” He added:
“She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark (Gregg’s). Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”
As of right now, Smulders will only “occasionally appear” on the show. Though it seems like Whedon wants her on regularly, the reason why her role may only be recurring is due to her other day job, How I Met Your Mother, but once that’s over (which is very soon) then the possibilities are endless. Check out the first photo of Smulders on the show below.
Meanwhile, Mr. Diesel continues to tease us with his Marvel fantasies (which don’t seem to be fantasies at all). During a panel for his upcoming film Riddick, the actor answered a question from a fan about all those Marvel rumors (via CinemaBlend):
“There is some very big news coming at the end of this month.”
As you may notice, he wasn’t very specific (again). But if he’s being honest, then at the end of the month we’ll finally find out if Marvel has cast Diesel as Vision (a.k.a. Ant-Man) or some other Avenger.
Are you excited to see Smulders on Agents of SHIELD? What do you make of these Vin Diesel/Marvel rumors?
