Due in part to the fact that his age is advancing, and also because of the whole hating minorities thing, and just maybe because of laying the blame for every war ever on the feet of the Jewish populace, Mel Gibson has begun to slip into the career phase in which he stops playing the hero in films and instead gets stuck with being the villain. Case in point: his turn as “eccentric arms dealer” Luthor Voz in the upcoming Machete Kills. And now, it seems he may have another villain role in the offing—the Big Bad in The Expendables 3.
Following earlier rumors and reports that Sylvester Stallone has been considering Gibson as the villain for the sequel, Stallone let loose with the following Tweet on Monday:
“Mad Max vs Barney Ross…”
For those not in the know, Mad Max was one of Gibson’s earliest and successful roles, and Barney Ross is the goofily-named hero portrayed by Stallone in the Expendables series.
So, thoughts? It makes sense to add Gibson to the roster, as his appearances in such ‘80s action fare as Lethal Weapon and the Mad Max films alone does warrant his inclusion in a film series that already stars Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme; and yet, will audiences be ready to see past his real-life tirades?
What do you think?
