20th Century Fox raised a lot of eyebrows last week when the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con schedule was released, as their scheduled block of time was simply listed as “TBD.” For those paying attention, this was a huge tease of potential possibilities—as /Film notes, speculation ran from the Fantastic Four reboot to The Wolverine to X-Men: Days of Future Past to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and more. Well, Fox has officially announced some of the titles they’re bringing, as well as a major surprise.
Matt Reeves’ Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, as well as James Mangold’s The Wolverine will both be featured (with stars) at this year’s Comic-Con. No real surprise there. However, Fox is also bringing “a major surprise” with them, which has once again ramped up speculation to the above suspects—X-Men: Days of Future Past or The Fantastic Four.
Frankly, our money is on X-Men: Days of Future Past—this is a huge film in Fox’s current crown jewel, the X-Men franchise, as it bridges the gap between the first three X-Men films and the more recent X-Men: First Class. And seeing how the film is competing with The Avengers 2 in terms of scale as well as shared characters, Fox needs anticipation for X-Men: Days of Future Past to be tremendous.
What do you think—what’s the “major surprise”?
