Given that Hayley Atwell’s portrayal of Agent Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger was better than the average, thankless “superhero love interest” generic role, it was only inevitable that Marvel Studios find a way to continue working her into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while she cannot pop up in the “modern” films (the character lives in the WWII era), she is getting her own short film, Agent Carter, which just got a new poster.
In the film, we’ll see Agent Carter one year after the events featured in the first Captain America film as she pursues a mysterious MacGuffin called “Zodiac.” In an interview with EW (via /Film), Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito refused to clarify Zodiac’s exact nature:
“Zodiac in the books has been many many different things. We just want you to know it’s deadly, it’s important, bad guys are guarding it, and it’s imperative she gets it.”
As for the poster, it’s a clever nod to pulp magazines of the 1940s—check it out.
Agent Carter will screen on Friday, July 19th at Comic-Con, and will be packaged with the Iron Man 3 blu-ray on September 24th.
