While Guillermo del Toro has been making the rounds promoting his latest film, the big robots and big monsters flick Pacific Rim, rumors have begun burbling upward that the director might possibly make a third Hellboy film.  However, according to the director, the chances that you’ll ever see a third film in the Hellboy franchise is “slim.”

The director, who previously helmed Hellboy and Hellboy 2, stated in a recent Collider interview that there are so many hurdles for Hellboy 3 to overcome that it’s just not likely to come into fruition:

“It’s very unlikely it’ll happen because you need things to converge so strongly:  Larry Gordon, Universal, the rights, Ron [Perlman’s] and my availability, Mike [Mignola’s] blessing…”

Perlman, as you might know, portrays the titular demonic hero of the series, and Mike Mignola is the character’s creator.

Del Toro went on to add that “we have pieces of that, but we don’t have all of that.  You need so many things to confluence and then you need about $150 million.”

So, Hellboy fans, don’t get your hopes up about another film in the series; however, if Pacific Rim becomes a monster hit, no pun intended, that $150 million and Ron Perlman availability might fall into place rather quickly…

What do you think of the Hellboy 3 news?
