Dumb and Dumber was originally released by New Line in 1994, and it proved that Jim Carrey was a comedy sensation after it, Ace Ventura and The Mask. Nearly twenty years later, everyone is willing to come back for a sequel called Dumb and Dumber To, but New Line (and Warner Brothers) didn’t want it. Thankfully, Universal has picked it up and they’re planning to start shooting in September.
That’s the latest word on the project from Jeff Daniels, who gave Jimmy Fallon a thumbs up about the sequel while on The Late Show promoting The Newsroom. Daniels said “I’ve seen the script. It’s hysterical. We’re middle-aged, and we’re still that stupid.” Footage that you can watch for yourself right here:
That Fallon had the picture ready suggests that this was a planned stunt. All interviews like this have pre-selected questions that are plotted, and with Universal on board, why not start building hype for the follow up? The only question is if Jim Carrey — who was once a hold out and thought they wouldn’t make the picture — is officially on board. Perhaps he wants to do it, but considering that he won’t promote Kick Ass 2 because of the gunplay involved, it’s hard to know if he’ll commit to this. But, again, this was no accident, and we’re guessing Dumb and Dumber To will be rolling in September.
Mock? Yeah? King? Yeah?
