With rumors swirling for a year that Warner Bros. will be making a Justice League franchise a la Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, the internet has had plenty of time to begin assuming all sorts of wild theories, such as one in which Warner Bros. pays Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale massive amounts of money to be involved. And, given Nolan’s involvement in Man of Steel, some thought it might indeed be possible that Bale himself would return in cape and cowl for the Justice League films.
But that won’t be happening, of course.
Bale spoke up about the rumors in a recent interview, and made it wholly clear that he is far, far outside the loop as far as the Justice League and Batman are concerned, as “I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it.”
It’s not like this comes as a surprise—you didn’t really expect Bale would return, did you?—but at the same time, it’s nice not to worry that Bale would be lured back into the fold the way Nolan was for Man of Steel.
“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy…Chris always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”
Bale added that “it’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
What do you think of the Batman news?
