If there’s one summer movie we’re excited about, it’s Neill Bomkamp‘s Elysium. The sci-fi flick looks like it’s loaded with social commentary and also features a great storyline, not to mention that we’re all excited to see what Blomkamp has for us in his followup to District 9, which was great. Sony has released a brand new trailer and TV spot for the film. Check them out below.

The trailer is just a shorter version of the three-minute extended trailer that Sony released not so long ago. Again, the storyline reveals that this is a futuristic dystopia where the privileged live on a space station called Elysium, where there’s no poverty, war or sickness; and the poor reside on a chaotic, torn earth. Matt Damon‘s Max is the hero, who finds out he has only five days to live thus sending him on a mission to Elysium to save his own kin and possibly the entire population on Earth. But a fierce Jodie Foster stands in his way. Here’s the clip:

While we hate the tactics that Hollywood uses to promote their big budget summer movies – seriously, it often  feels like their just hitting on the head with a hammer – this clip does offer a good amount of mystery and suspense. The newly released TV spot is quick and action-loaded, which is great for the average viewer who doesn’t necessarily know all that us movie buffs know about this sci-fi flick. Check it out.

Elysium also stars Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, William Fichtner and Wagner Moura, and is set to hit theaters August 9.

What do you think? Are you excited for Elysium?
