There’s no denying the last couple years of Ridley Scott‘s career have been hit and miss (Body of Lies, Robin Hood, and Prometheus are his last three efforts), but there’s also no denying that he’s still one of the best working filmmakers, and generally does well when he’s working with a good script. Well, not only is his latest, The Counselor, written by Cormac McCarthy, it stars Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Brad Pitt. And here’s the first teaser.
This is mostly an impressionistic tease, but it shows that the film has an incredible amount of talent in front of and behind the camera. It’s also good that Fassbender and Scott seem to have developed a good working relationship making Prometheus. Fassbender was easily the best part of that film, and so maybe this time they’ll make a great movie together. Here’s that teaser:
On the surface this looks like Oscar bait, considering the people involved. And after thirty some years in the business with at least three or four masterpieces under his belt, perhaps 2013 is the year that Ridley Scott gets his due from the Academy. Then again, this looks bleak, stylish, and sexy — things that often don’t go over well with Oscar voters. But if it wasn’t on your radar before, this teaser makes The Counselor one of 2013′s must-see films.
