William Fichtner has a sharp, angular look that’s perfect for playing the Heavy in films (he’s already playing bad guys twice over in 2013—once in Elysium, once in The Lone Ranger), so when it was reported earlier that he would be playing “a lead [role] with iconic stature in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ mythology,” as Cinema Blend notes, many assumed it would be baddie Baxter Stockman, the scientist who creates the rat-killing Mouser machines. But not so according to the actor—he’s playing the ultimate TMNT villain Shredder in the live-action new Turtles film.
That’s right, William Fichtner is shredder. Fichtner recently joined the Michael Bay-produced, and Jonathan Liebesman-directed production, and he admitted to The Huffington Post Canada that “I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, ‘Really? Let me think about this for a minute.’ Then I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.’ I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.”
Fichtner will be joining such stars as Megan Fox (April O’Neil), Will Arnett (Vernon Fenwick), and Danny Woodburn (Master Splinter) in the film, which is set for a June 6, 2014 release date.
