Well, despite some amazingly silly production images that have leaked from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and the fact that The Amazing Spider-Man itself was a massive chunk of meh, it’s with a small amount of surprise that we receive the big news: Sony has given the green light to both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4.
Sony issued a press release today, calling Spider-Man “our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise,” and noted that they are “thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
And those release dates? Expect The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to hit on June 10, 2016, and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 to be released on May 4, 2018.
While no plot information has been released, given the fact that the Lizard survived the events of The Amazing Spider-Man, and that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will feature at least Electro, the Rhino, and Norman Osborn (with a rumored Vulture also joining their ranks), rumor has it that Sony is building an arc that will eventually feature a team-up of the Sinister Six.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for a May 2, 2014 release.
What do you think of the Spider-Man news?
