If there’s one thing that holds Captain America back from being a cinematic badass, it’s this: his suit is absolutely ridiculous.  Don’t get us wrong, we’re all for patriotism and apple pie and all that.  But, frankly, the skin-tight red, white, and blue spandex as worn in The Avengers (his heavier, World War II outfit was far less embarrassing) doesn’t exactly scream coolness or masculinity.  So it’s with some excitement that we can report that Cap is getting a new suit in Captain America: The Winter Solider (Chris Evans’ stuntman was pictured in the outfit); however, it’s with some disappointment that we report the new suit it still really goofy.

First off, the ears.  Is it really necessary that his ears stick out of the mask?  Isn’t that a vulnerability?  And the rest of the suit more or less looks like Cap is wearing his winter pajamas from when he was 12.

Look, it’s 2013.  We’ve managed to make the batsuit look cool, Superman’s new outfit ditched the underwear and is more or less tolerable, Thor and Iron Man look great—would be so hard to deck Captain America in something that didn’t make him look like a kid dressing up as a superhero?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is currently filming and is set for an April 4, 2014 release.

What do you think of the suit?
