Last month, we reported that actor John C. Reilly was in the running for a role in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy (you know, the film with a superhero tree and gun-toting raccoon), a film about a group of intergalactic law enforcers. And, while Reilly would be awfully high profile for such a gig (Marvel has a tendency to go for cheaper, less on the radar performers), his possible casting would be in line for a film that has already hired Glenn Close, Benicio del Toro, and Zoe Saldana. And now it has indeed been confirmed that Reilly will be joining their ranks.
Deadline reports that Reilly will be cast as Ronan the Accuser, who “first surfaced in the Marvel Comics in Fantastic Four” as a Big Bad with “superhuman strength, endurance, speed and reflexes.” He also wears an exoskeleton of armor that renders him invisible, and he lugs around a hammer like Thor. Oh, and in the Ultimate Marvel imprint of Marvel comics, Ronan the Accuser is Thanos’ son. Thanos, if you’ll recall, was the big purple guy who showed up for two seconds at the end of The Avengers.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set for an August 1 release date.
So, do you expect to be seeing Thanos pop up now in Guardians of the Galaxy, as has been rumored?
