Back in April, we showed you the first trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to District 9, Elysium, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. That clip gave the film’s broad strokes—in the future, the poor live on an overpopulated and disease-covered Earth while the privileged live in an orbiting paradise called Elysium—while this newest trailer gets more specific, without letting loose with a torrent of spoilers.
Matt Damon plays Max, who comes off as a slightly chattier version of a typical John Carpenter blue-collar badass who can’t seem to play by the rules. When Max is mortally injured while working in an industrial factory, he has only one plan—get to Elysium, in which nearly any disease or injury can be cured. Armed with an exoskeleton, Max makes a charge for Elysium, getting the attention of Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt and her army.

Not bad, huh? Like District 9, Elysium seems like a heady mix of social commentary blended with some great science fiction, and it’s a 2013 release we’re highly anticipating.
Elysium is set for an August 19th release date.
What did you think of the Elysium long trailer—will you be seeing the film in August?
