Further confirmation that Terminator 5 is actually somehow happening, despite the sheer awfulness of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation: Paramount Pictures is now in negotiations to own the distribution rights for the Terminator franchise. Not only is this another very large feather in Paramount’s cap (last week, the studio won back the rights to both the South Park and Friday the 13th film franchises), but it’s yet another indication that Terminator 5 really is happening.
While there is still no news of a director for the film, Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return (as a really old and saggy cyborg, apparently), and Terminator rights owners Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions have hired Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis to hammer out a screenplay.
So, Terminator fans, allow yourself to get excited today (or really, really scared, depending on whether or not a Terminator sequel is actually a good thing), as this news indicates that the Terminator 5 project is moving forward and is indeed happening. Or you could just rewatch The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and pretend like none of the other films ever happened. That’s probably the healthiest angle at this point.
What do you think of the Terminator news?
