Well if we were talking to Captain Hammer, he would declare that he’s the world’s best (good looking) superhero. Still, that hasn’t stopped the Firefly loving fan base to question why hasn’t their Captain Malcolm Reynolds, aka Nathan Fillion, taken on a bigger superhero like Green Lantern or whatever other character comes to mind when it pertains to fantasy casting.
For those of you who may not know, Nathan Fillion provides the voice for one of our monstrous villains in the upcoming Disney/Pixar animated movie Monsters University. He sat down and talked about the movie, but the inevitable question as to why he hasn’t been in any major blockbuster superhero movie comes up. This is Mr. Fillion’s response:
“Joss [Whedon] and James [Gunn] have done so much for me, I’m not the guy that goes knocking at their door and goes, ‘Do some more for me!’ You know what I mean? They’re doing great stuff right now and I’m having a great time right now, so I think that once I wrap up Castle, and we get a little more free time one our hands…”
Fillion, stop teasing us with the possibility of seeing you as a superhero one of these days! You know how badly all of your fans, including myself, would have loved to seen you become the Green Lantern. But that’s neither here nor there. Will Nathan Fillion one day play a live-action superhero on the big screen? Perhaps, but I hope fans haven’t forgotten that he’s voiced plenty of characters in the animated superhero universe, like Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.
Would you like to see Nathan Fillion play a superhero on the big screen one day? Why or why not?
