Despite the fact that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was nearly three hours long (when an hour and a half would have sufficed), featured a distractingly increased frame rate, and overall lacked the charm and beauty of the any of the films in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, it did make over a billion dollars worldwide, meaning that Warner Bros. wouldn’t be putting a stop to the remainder of The Hobbit trilogy. Hence, a new teaser poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug today, with a teaser trailer to follow tomorrow.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug finds Thorin Oakenshield’s dwarves, Gandalf, and Bilbo Baggins passing through the dark forest of Mirkwood to find The Lake City and face down Smaug, a greedy dragon with a funny-sounding name.
Today, Peter Jackson posted the first teaser poster for the film on Facebook, with Bilbo Baggins standing before the Lonely Mountain.
And fans of the film series have something else to excite them this week—the first trailer for the film will be released online this week, and will be attached to Man of Steel when it premieres this weekend.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is set to premiere on December 13th.
