Blue Jasmine

It’s hard to get a read on Woody Allen‘s Blue Jasmine, as it looks like it could one of his more serious movies, though there are moments in the trailer that suggest there are some jokes to be found here and there (though they may not be that funny). But as great as a cast as he’s assembled, as evinced above, there’s something kind of crazy and awesome about Andrew “Dice” Clay (as pictured above) appearing in a Woody Allen film.

He’s joined by Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Louis C.K. (Louis C.K.!), Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard, Bobby Cannavale, and Michael Stuhlbarg for the latest Allen picture, which seems told partly in flashback as Blanchett was with a man (Baldwin) who gave her everything she wanted, only she didn’t realize he was a crook. She then lives with her sister (Hawkins) as she tries to get herself back together.

Huh, going by the trailer, this could be Allen’s attempt to do something a little Tennessee Williams-esque, as this shares some similarities with A Streetcar Named Desire, and after years of pillaging foreign writers and filmmakers, it would be interesting to see Allen borrow from quintessentially American literature. But all that said, really, we’re going to see this movie regardless because it’s the one that features Louie and Ford Fairlane. Blue Jasmine opens July 26. Here’s the film’s poster:
