The recent spate of lazily jamming incongruent figures into horror films (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, and the upcoming adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) has now added a new notch to its belt—Archie comics. Yes, really, Archie comics.
Really, it’s kind of a surprise that the Archie comics haven’t already been given some kind of modern remake, in which Archie, his idiot friend Jughead, and their girlfriends Betty and Veronica, get a The Brady Bunch film kind of update. But that never happened, so now we’re getting another film that oh-so hilariously throws some monsters at a bunch of non-horror characters while a desperate movie studio hopes a bunch of teenagers go see it (because if there’s one thing the 18-24 year old demographic wants, it’s an Archie movie).
/Film notes that Warner Bros. has secured Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore to helm the project, and Carrie reboot writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will pen the screenplay. Sacasa has already been hired to write a comic called Afterlife with Archie, in which Jughead accidentally causes a zombie apocalypse, so one can assume the film will follow in that vein.
Oh, and be terrible. It will be terrible.
What do you think of the Archie news?
