Though it features no super-punching, the first clip from Man of Steel is now online, and it gives us our first solid look at Laurence Fishburne‘s Perry White. Here he takes Amy Adams‘s Lois Lane to task for a faulty story.

Though the clip isn’t much, it does at least give us a sense of Perry White as a character. After J.K. Simmons played J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man films, this obviously couldn’t be as cartoonish or as oversized as that performance, so this gives a sense of what they’re trying to do here. He’s definitely got some anger in him, but also compassion. But with Christopher Nolan as a producer, it was obviously going to borrow a page from his Dark Knight films and keep things slightly more grounded, even with Zack Snyder at the helm.

With all of the May titles out of the way, we’re in a quiet period of the summer, something reflected in the poor performance of After Earth. Big stuff has hit, and now there’s a little break between blockbusters. The question is if audiences are pumped for new a Superman film after the relatively poor performance of Superman Returns. Fan sites are definitely waiting with bated breath, but this could be another situation like The Muppets where the press is more interested than the general public. We’ll know for sure when Man of Steel hits theaters June 14.
