Marvel’s oddball Guardians of the Galaxy may have scored another casting coup—after nabbing Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, and Dave Bautista for a cast of intergalactic law enforcers and their villains, it looks like John C. Reilly may be joining the cast
First off, Reilly—the Oscar nominated actor who has appeared in such films as Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Step Brothers, has been approached by Marvel to play Rhomann Dey in the film. As /Film notes, Rhomann Day is essentially a “go-between for the Guardians…and S.H.I.E.L.D,” more or less making him the Agent Coulson of the Guardians franchise. It’s also noted that the role would be “a big commitment,” meaning that Reilly would likely be required to appear in multiple films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Moreover, Marve is currently on the hunt for an actor to play “a colleague” for Reilly’s character, and is reaching out to Alan Rickman, Hugh Laurie, and Ken Watanabe.
That’s quite a prestigious cast for a film that features a talking raccoon as a cosmic cop, but with James Gunn at the helm, we’re hoping it can all come together in his typically bizarre fashion.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set for a 2014 release.
