Because, frankly, what the world of cinema (and the world in general) needs now more than anything else is reboots of Jean-Claude Van Damme time-travel vehicles from the 1990s, the former action star’s Timecop is now getting a reboot. Yes, Timecop, the film in which you could tell past and future Van Damme’s apart by the length of his mullet, and for some reason Ron Silver melts into himself at the end.
The Hollywood Reporter (via Cinema Blend) is reporting that Universal Pictures is going to reboot the film (which spawned a 1997 TV series as well as the forgettable direct to video Timecop: The Berlin Decision), which itself was based on a series from Dark Horse Comics. In the original film, Van Damme starred as part of a police force that regulated the time travel, and the Muscles from Brussels is forced to go toe-to-toe with a politician who is altering the past for his own gains.
The reboot, however, will not star Jean Claude Van Damme, nor will tell the original film’s story; rather, it will be a “re-imagining” of the concept, presumably with less mullets and mid-air splits.
What do you think of the Timecop news?
