In Elementary’s two-part finale, nothing was as it seemed. Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) was reunited with the love of his life, while under the watchful eye of Moriarty. When Irene Adler (guest star Natalie Dormer) rises from the grave, it knocks Sherlock off his feet. But her return was nothing compared to Moriarty’s next reveal. What did you think of the character’s secret identity?
[Spoilers below. Stay away if you haven't watched the finale]
Elementary took creative license with not one, but two staple characters. Both Irene and Moriarty appear in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock stories. But the series writers did something daring by combining the two—literally. Irene Adler is Moriarty! We’re still reeling from the reveal. Sherlock learned (thanks to missing birthmarks) that “The Woman” isn’t who he thought she was.
We have to admit, from the very beginning, Irene’s introduction felt off. We assumed she would be Moriarty’s partner but not that ma—woman herself. Making him her could be either terrific or terrible. How would you categorize it?
