The trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s (Y Tu Mama Tambien, Children of Men, A Little Princess, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) newest and long-awaited/ long-delayed film, Gravity, is finally upon us.  Given the rabidity of his fanbase (which is justified—I mean, have you seen the above films?), the wait will likely be justified, and the teaser trailer looks awfully intriguing and spooky.

The film tells the story of Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock), “a brilliant medical engineer” working on her first space shuttle mission, along with astronaut vet Matt Kowalsky (played by George Clooney).  And during an everyday spacewalk, the shuttle explodes, leaving the two scientists alone and lost in the blackness of space, tied to one another and drifting from Earth.  As time passes, they lose contact with Earth, and their oxygen levels begin to plummet.

So it’s basically one of the most horrifying and terrible scenarios ever, tethered to two Academy Award winning Hollywood stars—which may be enough to push a Cuarón film into the mainstream, even if it does seem a little distracting trying to imagine Clooney and Bullock as astronauts.

Gravity is set for an October 19, 2013 release in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D.

What do you think of the teaser?
