Disney‘s collaboration with Marvel continues to surprise fans as one new project after another pops up. The latest one isn’t your regular run-of-the-mill Disney live-action superhero movie but an animated one. We’re talking about Big Hero 6, Disney’s first big animated feature that they’ve teamed up to do with Marvel Studios.

Back in the late 90s, American kids and teenagers had a fever, and the only way they could cure it was with more Japanese cartoons and comics. While we were all craving the latest anime/manga that there was out there, Marvel must have been slightly inspired by the culture to inevitably create Big Hero 6. The group of superheroes were formed by a private Japanese group in order to protect their city. The movie will more or less be the same as the new superhero team forms up in the fictional city of San Fransoko, a stylistic hybrid town of San Francisco and Tokyo that looks really pretty from what they’re showing us so far.

The biggest problem that Marvel and Disney had to face with this project is keeping the Silver Samurai out of it. As you may or may not know, 20th Century Fox owns the rights to Silver Samurai who will be appearing in The Wolverine this summer. Okay so we may not be seeing him in Big Hero 6 anytime soon, but at least we’ll be getting the remainder of our clever young superheroes. Check out the nice concept art and video.
