Following the surprise of success of the Planet of the Apes loose prequel/ semi-reboot, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it was only natural that we’d be getting a sequel/ another sort-of prequel to the franchise. Hence, another mouthful title: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. And now, Fox has provided the world with a plot summery (hint: it involves sentient apes not getting along with humans).
The plot summary is relatively sketchy and obvious at the same time, picking up a decade after the James Franco-starring first film, in which “a growing nation of genetically evolved apes” led by Caesar (the ape portrayed by Andy Serkis in Rise of the Planet of the Apes) becomes threatened by a group of humans who survived the virus let loose in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The two groups then work towards a “fragile peace” which doesn’t last long, as both sides are “brought to the brink of war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.”
The Matt Reeves-directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set to open on May 23, 2014, and will star Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, and Keri Russell.
