Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar keeps slowly but surely moving right along, as news broke earlier this week that Jessica Chastain would be joining Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway (who previously starred as Selina Kyle in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises) as a member of the cast. And today, the unsurprising news of a certain Christopher Nolan alum joining the Interstellar ranks has leaked.
Longtime Nolan actor Michael Caine has now joined the Interstellar cast. Caine first starred in a Christopher Nolan film with Batman Begins in 2005, and then subsequently was featured in The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises. In three of those films (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises) Caine played Alfred the butler, an older man who offered sage wisdom to the dark and tortured protagonist. In The Prestige and Inception, Caine played an older man who offered sage wisdom to the dark and tortured protagonists. Interstellar will be Caine’s sixth time around as a Christopher Nolan actor—wanna guess what type of character he’ll be playing?
Interstellar, originally penned by Jonathan Nolan (based on the work of physicist Kip Thorne, and originally set to be a Steven Spielberg project), is currently getting a rewrite from Christopher. Of course, being a Christopher Nolan film, no one really knows what Interstellar is about, aside from the basic PR summary: “A heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.”
