Back in the halcyon days of 2009, when the world thought that maybe J.J. Abrams could make a decent Star Trek movie and not just a giant cartoon, rumor had it that the original series villains the Klingons would make an appearance, but they were axed before the film was released (they pop up in a deleted scene, albeit with lumpy metal masks hiding their lumpy alien foreheads). But, it looks like those famous ridges finally show up in Star Trek Into Darkness.
Despite Paramount’s care not to leak whether or not Benedict Cumberbatch is Khan or not, they seemed to have slipped as we home in on the Star Trek Into Darkness release date, and leaked a blink-and-you’ll miss it shot of some unmasked Klingons facing down Uhura in the newest viral ad. You can hit pause to see them in the video below, or just look at the pic up above.
So what do you think of the Abrams-ized Klingons? They feature the lumpy heads that were featured in the original series films and later TV series’, rather than the more human-looking Klingons from the limited-budget TV series. Do they work for you?
Star Trek Into Darkness is set for a May 15 release date.
