Though director J.J. Abrams still has to make his way through the publicity gauntlet for his latest film, Star Trek Into Darkness, that’s not going to stop people from wondering what’s going on with his next project. You know, Star Wars: Episode VII. There’s been word that the old cast might return, and now it seems that Carrie Fisher has confirmed that she’s coming back, with or without the bun hair and gold bikini.

Fisher was at the Calgary Comics Expo, and as is often the case with Ms. Fisher, she was happy to talk about the project, and what’s going on from her perspective. She said:

“I like being bought by Disney, because they never wanted to buy me before. I’m glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape. So I’m really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything.”

This sounds like she’s telling the truth (she’s been known to kid the press), which suggests that both Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford will also be returning. They could easily write out some of the previous characters, but it seems more than likely they’ll want that extra touch of nostalgia. All the previous Star Wars films have been wildly successful, though there is a sense that older fans much prefer the original trilogy and don’t think much of the prequels (even if they’ve watched them repeatedly). With a new director at the helm, perhaps giving that nod to the three films that fans love most is a way to bridge excitement.

Should Carrie Fisher don the gold bikini in Episode 7?
