Thanks to surprising success of Fast Five in 2011, it will likely be a long time before Hollywood stops churning out films in the Fast and Furious franchise, in which two big bald guys (Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson) play games of cat and mouse while driving shiny cars really fast so man-children in the audience can feel cool when driving their Corolla home. And so the final trailer for Fast & Furious 6 is bringing out all the stops in an effort to sell itself as the most gleefully insane action film of the summer, with its endless array of car wrecks, car chases, girl-on-girl fist fights, and at least three—count ‘em, three—different characters violating the laws of physics by flying out of moving vehicles, seemingly floating in mid-air, and landing on other cars.
Directed by Fast Five’s Justin Lin, the film finds agent Hobbs recruiting various members of the franchise’s gang to team up and stop a dangerous criminal who is pulling of a series of auto-related heists. Oh, and then a previously dead character pulls a soap opera move and comes out of hiding…and then, of course, flies out of a moving car at 100 mph. Dig the trailer:
Sure, it looks, big, silly, and kind of dumb, but for once it seems as if the series is somewhat in on the joke, and is aiming for as much self-aware silliness as possible. So it could be fun in a Point Break kind of way, which is the film this franchise got its start ripping off, anyway.
Fast & Furious 6 is set for a May 24th release.
