It’s well known that Robert Downey Jr.’s contract with Marvel ends with Iron Man 3, which gets an official release on May 3.  Despite that fact, it’s assumed that Downey Jr. will appear in 2015’s The Avengers 2 in at least some capacity.  Further, as /Film notes, it was assumed that an Iron Man 4 was “probably” going to happen.  But now, it appears that may not be so, as Gwyneth Paltrow has stated that she doesn’t see an Iron Man 4 happening.

Bleeding Cool (via /Film) caught the news bit, in which Paltrow was being interviewed about Iron Man 3, when she let a fairly interesting opinion slip:

I don’t think there’s going to be [an Iron Man 4]. I think we’re done with Iron Man.

Now, /Film notes that Paltrow’s contract with Marvel also expires with Iron Man 3, and this could be her bid for a pay hike in order to show up for Iron Man 4 (her character, Pepper Potts, is relatively integral to the Iron Man series/ Tony Stark character).

However, given Joss Whedon’s penchant for brutally killing the beloved characters in his franchises, and the fact that Robert Downey Jr.’s contract is up, perhaps no Iron Man 4 is happening as Tony Stark will meet his end in The Avengers 2.  Thoughts?

What do you think of the Iron Man 4 news?
