After promising that “awful things” will happen to the Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye during an interview about The Avengers 2 earlier this month, Joss Whedon has let even more details slip about his upcoming superhero sequel to one of the most financially successful films of all time. Want some spoiler-y information because you just can’t wait until the film’s May 1, 2015? Then keep reading.
Yahoo! (via Coming Soon) recently spoke with the writer/ director/ geek king at the Iron Man 3 premiere, and Whedon noted he has “finished a draft” of the Avengers 2 script and is now currently going back to polish it. “I think it’s in really good shape. We’re in a very good place.”
Whedon also noted that “I’ve got these two characters, two of my favorite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act. They’re in the movie.”
As Coming Soon notes, the most likely candidates for a “brother-sister” superhero act would be Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (as the only other comic book brother and sister hero team that comes to mind is Sue and Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four, the rights of which currently reside with Fox, not Marvel). While Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch happen to be children of Magneto (who belongs to the X-Men franchise), they did join the Avengers in the comic books, which makes them the most likely possibility.
Further Whedon discussed his feelings on “topping” the first Avengers film:
“I try not to think of it as topping it. I try to think of this as its own movie. Sometime yeah, I feel pressure and by the way, Shane (Black) not helping, Iron Man 3 not helping, because I saw this and man he really got it right. But when you’re in the story and you’re dealing with these characters that you love, that everybody loves, when you’ve got the new characters sliding in next to them it’s very exciting. Then I don’t feel pressure, it’s like I’m reading my favorite comic.”
