ratchet and clank

Big news for fans of stories about weird anthropomorphic hyena or Chihuahua-looking people and their sentient mini-robot pals—Blockade Entertainment, Rainmaker Entertainment and Insomniac Games are joining forces to release a Ratchet & Clank animated film in 2015.

The film will be based upon the universe and characters in the Ratchet & Clank franchise of video games that have been released for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 consoles.  The series has lasted just over a decade thus far, with the first game, Ratchet & Clank, being released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, and the most recent release, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, came out in November of 2012.  The games are science-fiction based, and tell the story of Ratchet (the aforementioned hyena-dog-cat thing, known as a Lombax) and his robot pal Clank as they regularly rescue the universe from various forms of impending doom.

Insomniac Games announced that the film adaptation was happening today with a teaser trailer.  Check it out:

Further, the company released a statement, announcing:

“We’ve wanted to do a movie for a long time! Ratchet & Clank’s action, humor and galaxy-spanning adventures have really been the basis for a fantastic game series, and we think it’d translate perfectly to the big screen.”
