The cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is still coming together, and the producers have once again managed to surprise us with their choice. British actress Ophelia Lovibond has been cast to play a character that appears to be closely tied with The Collector (possibly his aide). She’ll be joining Michael Rooker, Dave Bautista, Chris Pratt, and Zoe Saldana.
In the comics The Collector is an Elder of the Universe. He is obsessed with the collection and preservation of living beings and artifacts from across the universe. The Collector has the (limited) power to see into the future. In recent years, he foresaw that Thanos was a great danger. He also saw that Korvac was a great threat and decided to send his daughter Carina to spy on him on Earth.
THR reports Lovibond will play an aide to The Collector. Though her character’s name is not revealed, it’s possible that she’ll play his daughter Carina.
Guardians is directed by James Gunn. The project is being described as a “space-set adventure movie” where sees Star Lord, who leads a group that includes Gamora and Drax.
Lovibond credits include Nowhere Boy and the TV series Titanic: Blood and Steel. She appeared in Mr. Popper’s Penguins and No Strings Attached.
Roles that have been assigned include Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, which will be played by Pratt, Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Saldana as the green skinned assassin Gamora, and Rooker as Yondu.
The film is currently in pre-production in the UK. It’s scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014 release.
Who do you think Lovibond will play in Guardians of the Galaxy?
