Another week, another trailer for a young adult novel adaptation about a teen girl who’s the super most special-ist gal in whole wide world and only she can rescue us all from a CGI onslaught of werewolves or aliens or demons, all while stealing the heart of a supernatural being who’s all cheekbones and 0% body fat. Today’s contender for the “oh please please please let us be half as successful as Twilight or The Hunger Games” award is: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones finds Lily Collins starring as teenager Clary Fray, who soon discovers she is a Shadowhunter. Shadowhunters are an ancient line of “half-angel” warriors who endlessly struggle to fight demons in an alternate universe version of New York called Downworld. We are not making this up. There, she must do battle with “demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and other deadly creatures,” all in a way which makes you wish you could be at home watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer instead, rather than this YA knockoff stuff. Oh well, have a good chuckle with the trailer:
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is set for an August 23 release date. Prepare for pseudo-empowerment that’s really about capitalizing on teen insecurity! (maybe the PR people can think of a better tagline)
What do you think of the trailer?
