With the news that Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake would be getting its very own Evil Dead 2, and that Sam Raimi’s own original franchise would be getting an Army of Darkness 2 (following his original Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness, a.k.a., Evil Dead III), we are now living in a world in which an original franchise of films is running parallel to a series of remakes of itself.  And so, it makes a wacky kind of sense that Alvarez and original franchise star Bruce Campbell are now pushing for the two storylines to merge in one film.

During last weekend’s WonderCon, Alvarez noted that he is aiming to make a film which merges the storylines of Ash (Bruce Campbell) from the original franchise and Mia (Jane Levy) from the new remake.  Further, Alvarez noted that, when combined all the Evil Dead films under one umbrella, he’d want the united storylines to take place in the seventh film.  As Campbell added, “Seven is a nice number.”

As /Film notes, however, all of this could crumble over a weekend if Army of Darkness 2 doesn’t happen, or if the Evil Dead 2 remake bombs at the box office.
