Matthew McConaughey has had something of a charmed time lately—the actor has evolved from playing the smirking lead in the kind of smarmy romantic comedies that are now populated by Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl to starring in such films as Magic Mike, Mud, Bernie, and Killer Joe. It’s been a bizarre and abrupt transition, but one that McConaughey has handled well. So apparently, in this parallel universe we know live in, in which McConaughey stars in really good films, Christopher Nolan has taken note and has offered the actor the lead role in his newest film, Interstellar.
Interstellar tells the story of “a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding,” and reportedly deals with the crew of an interstellar vessel facing black holes, time travel, and parallel universes. McConaughey has been offered the role of Cooper, the main character in the film.
No word yet as to whether or not McConaughey has accepted the offer, but /Film notes he’d be rather nuts not to—considering the fact that Nolan’s past three films (The Dark Knight, Inception, and The Dark Knight Rises) have pretty much dominated the box office and pop-culture for the past five years, Interstellar is likely to be a tremendous event when it’s released on November 7, 2014.
