The Wolverine is currently on everybody’s lips, and that’s just because they released the upcoming sequel just released its first set of trailers. But one of the things that has got many X-Men fans curious is how much of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) we’ll be seeing in the upcoming sequel. A day after the release of the new trailers, actor Hugh Jackman dishes out a little bit more information to fans on how much Jean Grey we’ll be getting in our diet.
For those of you who may or may not know, Jean Grey was in the first X-Men trilogy. During X-Men: The Last Stand, Jean Grey became fully possessed by an unknown entity called The Phoenix Force. After that point it took her over, looking to consume everything in it’s path. Towards the end of the film Wolverine put an end to her life in order to save the human and mutant race. Since The Wolverine is taking place after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, we’re dealing with a version of Logan that’s still trying to heal his wounds from killing the woman he loves. Jackman touches a bit upon Wolverine and how much we might be seeing of Jean Grey.
“There’s no doubt that the most important relationship in his life is — we’ve seen through the movies — is his relationship with Jean Grey. Yes, we saw her die at the end of ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ but in this movie, she has a presence, which I think is vital to the movie, particularly for him confronting the most difficult thing within himself.”
Now it appears as if Jean Grey will be in nothing more than flashback scenes, which is totally fine. We don’t want to be too bogged down with Wolverine’s past since his present is going to be filled with the likes of the Silver Samurai and a complicated relationship with Mariko Yashida. We know from the looks of the trailer alone that The Wolverine is more or less abandoning most of the Chris Claremont story line from the comics, but we’re still curious to see what James Mangold and company will do.
Are you looking forward to The Wolverine?
