The marketing strategy for The Wolverine has been somewhat interesting thus far—instead of releasing teasers nearly a year in advance (we’re looking at you, Man of Steel and Iron Man 3, among others), The Wolverine’s ad machine has been relatively quiet outside of a few promo pics and awful posters. Then, this week, director James Mangold began dropping previews on Twitter that were only seconds long, and today, we have both the full domestic and international trailers for the sequel to the horrible X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
And hey, maybe it’s because the last film set the bar so low, but The Wolverine doesn’t look terrible. Kind of unnecessary, and it features those annoying thwwooooompppp sounds that have became a trailer staple ever since Inception, but Hugh Jackman still seems to be enjoying himself in the role.
The film finds the near-immortal Wolverine questioning and seemingly embracing the possibility of his own mortality (immortality sucks unless everyone you love is immortal, too), and waging battle after CGI battle in modern-day Japan, all while sporting a variety of humorous hair and beard stylings. Check out the domestic trailer:
And now, the international clip, with more/different footage:
The Wolverine is set for a July 26, 2013 release.
What do you think of the trailers?
