When The Fast and the Furious was released in 2001, it was a harmless (and brainless) rip-off of Point Break featuring cars being driven really fast. Somehow, that film’s success has been parlayed into several sequels, with Fast & Furious 6 being released on May 24th this year. That six movies, gang, about muscle-y mid-level actors driving cars a lot and committing crimes. And now, according to one of the franchise’s stars Dwayne Johnson, a seventh film is already on the way.
Johnson, who reprises his role as Diplomatic Security Service Luke Hobbs in Fast & Furious 6, states that, depending on the film’s success, there may be a spinoff film about the agent in the works, noting “that’s a character that people have really enjoyed seeing. I think it could work.”
Moreover, according to Coming Soon, Johnson has confirmed that plans are already in the works for Johnson to return as Hobbs in Fast & Furious 7, in which he works with Vin Diesel’s character Dom. “With Luke Hobbs, it feels like there might be one more. There’s one more Butch and Sundance journey to go on with Luke and Dom.”
What do you think—does the world need more Fast and Furious films?
