Remember how the Star Trek Into Darkness trailer released earlier this month featured a bizarre amount of similarities to Lethal Weapon 2 (seriously, it did…)? Well, now we have the international trailer for the film, and it’s bursting at the seams with new footage—including a whole sequence straight out of Godfather III. Seriously, this film seems to be stitched together out of nothing but references to bad sequels.
The sequence in question features a meeting of the heads of Starfleet, in which the head honchos all become trapped in the same glass conference room by a man who used to be one of them but now hovers outside in a shuttlecraft and shoots the everliving hell out the room. Kind of like in Godfather III, which features a meeting of the heads of the mob, in which the head honchos all become trapped in the same glass conference room by a man who claims he used to be one of them but now ordered a helicopter attack and shoots the everliving hell out of the room. Seriously, are all the references to bad sequels some kind of meta-clue that Paramount knows Star Trek Into Darkness will suck? Check out the trailer for yourself:
Star Trek Into Darkness was directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chis Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Benedict Cumberbatch, and is set for a May 17, 2013 release.
