The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally upon us—Transformers 4 finally has a plot summary. Yes, we can finally know what Michael Bay will use to feature a bunch of robot vehicles fighting each other all over planet Earth, all while a series of interchangeable human actors stare in wonderment at a series of green screens. It’s a pretty exciting day.
Switching up the (human) cast of the first film with new-to-the-franchise appearances from Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Raynor, and Brenton Thwaites, Transformers 4 takes place four years following the battle in Chicago that was featured in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. As /Film notes, Bay has previously stated that it will consciously follow the aftermath of the third film, “so it’s going to still have the same lineage. And it’s going a full new direction and feels very natural how it’s going in that direction.”
But, as for the actual plot of Transformers 4, it goes something like this:
As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control – all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs. The epic adventure and battle between good and evil, freedom and enslavement ensues.
Translation: CGI cars and trucks grow arms and legs and hit each other real hard while the audience just thanks Bay for not casting Shia LaBeouf once again.
