When G.I. Joe: Retaliation got pushed from June of last year to March of this year, one of the elements that people thought might be changed was the role of Channing Tatum. When he did G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Hollywood was attempting to make him the next big thing but it hadn’t taken yet. And so when Retaliation started shooting, the idea was to get rid of all connections to the first movie as quickly as possible. But now that Tatum’s a star, will he have a bigger role?

It seems possible based on this footage, which has Tatum goofing around with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This also raises our hopes for the movie, as the two together have a great natural, playful chemistry. Check out the clip:

Early word has been leaking about the movie as the embargo is still on, but some critics who saw the movie got to tweet about it last week and said that it was exactly what you expect it would be, and a perfect movie for twelve year old boys. And maybe a little better than the first film. It’s funny how Bruce Willis starred in both Moonrise Kingdom and Looper last year, and showed that he still has it, but this year he’s kicked things off with A Good Day to Die Hard and this, and now is back to looking like he mostly sleepwalks through movies again. G.I. Joe Retaliation opens March 28.
