If there’s one thing Sylvester Stallone knows how to do, it’s return to back to the well over and over and over and over and over again (see: Rocky II-VI, Rambo II-IV). As such, following the surprise success of The Expendables, he quickly gave the world The Expendables II. And with The Expendables II scoring around $300 million in global box office, Stallone has announced on Twitter that he is already writing the third installment.
So far, the actor is promising “mountains of surprises,” while seemingly turning his announcement Tweet into a semi-casting call, stating he was looking to cast “some young bloods!!!”:
“By young I mean 22 to 27. Not big bruisers but tech wizard, super brains and a young woman who is not a sex symbol but funny, tough, REAL.”
He further elaborated:
“EX3 needs NEW blood and more humor…. The films were always meant to be more on the humorous side with moments of drama.”
He also noted that, sadly Steven Seagal would not be bringing his ponytail and morbid obesity to the set of The Expendables III, but “maybe we get lucky with J. Chan!”
According to Coming Soon, Jackie Chan has stated he would agree to appear in The Expendables III “on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes.”
As for “young bloods,” The Expendables II did add Liam Hemsworth and Yu Nan, though Hemsworth was knocked off in, like, the first five minutes.
