As J.J. Abrams and screenwriter Michael Arndt work to develop the sequel Star Wars: Episode VII, news and rumors have begun to swirl that members of the original trilogy’s cast would be included in this new sequel trilogy. Fanning these flames is the all but confirmed rumor that Harrison Ford will indeed return to star as scoundrel Han Solo, and the fact that Mark Hamill has stated that the original cast members have been scheduled for talks with the producers of this new trilogy. Now we have Carrie Fisher, who has confirmed that she will return as Princess Leia.
As Coming Soon has it, during a recent interview with the Palm Beach Illustrated, Carrie Fisher confirmed that she would indeed return to the role that gave the world that double bun hairdo and metal bikini. When asked if she’d be returning for Star Wars: Episode VII, Fisher replied with a simple “yes.”
Now, there has yet to be an official confirmation from Disney, Abrams, or anyone else that’s part of the Star Wars: Episode VII camp, and so Fisher’s admission should likely be taken with at least a small grain of salt, as the actress can be a smidge on the wacky side. But for now, at least, take it as a huge hint that the stars of the original trilogy will indeed be returning.
