Spider-Man fans knew that Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin would eventually make his way into The Amazing Spider-Man universe, but not this soon. The folks over at Sony Pictures want Norman Osborn in their movie now and have cast a cool new actor for the role in their upcoming sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Enter Chris Cooper who more or less is one of those actors that you’ve seen in a number of movies, most notably American Beauty and recently The Muppets. He’s been cast to play the sinister Norman Osborn who eventually turns into The Green Goblin, one of Spider-Man’s most menacing foes in comics and on the big screen. It’s a big role, but at the moment nobody’s sure as to whether or not Cooper will be putting on the Green Goblin outfit in this movie. Perhaps in the next one.
Actually, we’d prefer if Cooper didn’t turn into The Green Goblin until the next movie. Why? Because there’s too many villains for Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) to deal with at this point. He’s already going up against Electro (Jamie Foxx) and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti). Usually two is the limit when it comes to big and bad villains in a comic book movie, but if they push for three that may be overkill. And we still have to deal with the whole fallout of Gwen Stacy, introduce Mary Jane and oh man. Is it just me or does this production already sound too crammed story-wise? Hopefully that’s not the case.
Do you think Chris Cooper is a good fit for Norman Osborn?
