A lot of folks who pay attention to the Academy Awards believed that there was one surefire winner for this year’s Best Actor category. Now that’s not to say that the other candidates weren’t qualified enough to be in the running, but this guy is a masterful actor. But did Academy voters help make the predictions come true or not?

This year’s winner for Best Actor is Daniel Day-Lewis for his work in LincolnThe actor was blushing from ear to ear as he came up and made his way to the stage as he grabbed his latest Oscar.

“I really don’t know how any of this happened. I do know that I’ve received so much more than my fair share of good fortune in my life and I’m so grateful for the Academy for this beautiful honor It’s a strange thing because three years ago before we decided to do a straight swap, I had actually been committed to play Margaret Thatcher…  Meryl was steven’s first choice for Lincoln and I’d like to see that version. [Lincoln] Steven [Spielberg] didn’t have to pursue me to play Lincoln but I had to persuade him that if I had to do it that Lincoln shouldn’t be a musical… My fellow nominees. My equals, my betters, I’m so proud to be include as one amongst you… Tony Kushner, our beloved skipper Steven Spielberg and the mysteriously beautiful mind, body and spirit of Abraham Lincoln.”
